Helldivers 2 Inspired Helmet WIP: Adding the Yellow Stripe Details

This Helldivers 2 inspired helmet build has reached the tense part of the paint process: masking the stripe layout, laying down a white undercoat, and getting everything ready for the yellow details that make the whole design hit properly.

The Helldivers 2 inspired helmet has now entered one of the more nerve-racking parts of the build: the yellow stripe details.

At this stage, the helmet already has its black base coat down, and the main stripe sections have been carefully masked off. This is the phase where a project briefly looks less like a finished prop and more like it lost a fight with a roll of tape, but that is normal. The tape gods are being consulted.

For the yellow markings, I am not spraying yellow straight over the black. The masked stripe areas are getting a white undercoat first so the yellow has a brighter base to sit on. That extra step helps the color stay bold and clean instead of turning muddy against the darker finish.

Once the white has dried properly, the yellow goes on next. After that comes the slightly terrifying reveal: peeling the masking and finding out whether the lines came out crisp or whether future me gets a surprise touch-up session.

Even in this in-between stage, the helmet is starting to lock into that strong sci-fi combat look. The black finish gives it the right tactical weight, and the yellow striping should add the hit of contrast that makes the silhouette read properly from across the room.

Current build stage:

  • 3D printed helmet complete
  • Black base coat applied
  • Stripe areas masked off
  • White undercoat added before yellow
  • Yellow stripe paint coming next
  • Final cleanup, weathering, and clear coat still to come

Project notes:
This is a fan-made 3D printed display helmet inspired by Helldivers 2. It is intended for cosplay and display use only and is not protective safety gear.

Once the yellow is finished, the next steps will likely be cleanup, touch-ups, weathering, and the final clear coat to tie everything together. More updates are coming soon, assuming the masking behaves and democracy survives the paint booth.
