HELL-BENT Paint Progress: The First Black Foundation Coat

The first coat of black is officially down on the Helldivers 2 inspired HELL-BENT Helmet. After all the printing, glueing, filling, and sanding, seeing the entire shell in one colour is the moment when the separate parts finally begin to read as a finished helmet.

This is a foundation coat, not the final paint job. Its first job is to unify the surface. Raw printed sections, filler, primer, and sanded areas can all reflect light differently, making it difficult to judge whether the finish is truly even. The black layer removes that visual noise and makes the geometry, seams, and remaining imperfections much easier to inspect.

It also gives the proper colour work a strong base. The final helmet will receive its metallic tones, yellow face treatment, smaller mechanical details, weathering, and protective finish over this stage. Building those colours in controlled layers gives us more depth than trying to make one heavy coat do everything at once.

The next step is wet sanding, because apparently making something smooth once is not enough. Wet sanding will soften small texture changes in the foundation coat and prepare the shell for the next paint layers without erasing the helmet's sharp panel lines.

The finish is already looking clean, and the HELL-BENT silhouette is reading clearly from every side. Once the proper colours and weathering go on, the dark foundation will remain an important part of the shadows and contrast underneath.

The finished HELL-BENT Helmet is planned at CA$349. The Etsy listing is not live yet, so it is marked Coming Soon in the catalogue while the paint process continues.
